The Indonesian Language Program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa provides a rich language learning environment and a comprehensive online program that spans over four years of instruction, and even beyond. No matter whether you are a novice or a seasoned speaker of Indonesian or Malay, we have the right course, and the appropriate teaching materials to suite your learning needs.
Our e-learning courses were developed using cutting-edge technologies combined with sound pedagogical practices. Most of our Indonesian language courses are based on authentic “texts” (written as well as audio and video sources). The texts are supplemented by a variety of carefully chosen interactive exercises that allow learners to work according to their individual interests, needs and learning styles. Vocabulary learning is supported by Anki, a spaced-repetition software that gives you the information before you would forget it and makes sure that it stays constantly fresh in your mind.
|IND306||Upper Intermediate (B2)||Jan-May|
|IND401||Upper Intermediate (B2)||Aug-Dec|
Most lessons are also supported by either audio and/or video recordings for comprehension exercises while the IndoLingo application (momentarily only available for beginning Indonesian) serves as a tool to actively practice speaking.
Online students do not have to be solitary learners. Through the Discussion Forum tool students communicate with each other – of course in the Indonesian language.
Progress is monitored by weekly quizzes, and by a final exam at the end of each semester.
The high quality of our online courses is reflected by the excellent student evaluations of our course materials. In 2016, the University of Hawai’i Indonesian language program received the Award for Excellence in Online Teaching by the UHM Center for Teaching Excellence.
