Mission

Mission & Vision of the Indonesian Language Program

In accordance with the philosophy statement of the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning, the Indonesian Language Program at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa affirms that “language and communication are at the heart of the human experience,” and that we “must educate students who are linguistically and culturally equipped to communicate successfully in a pluralistic American society and abroad.”

Therefore, the mission of the Indonesian Language Program at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa is to provide an innovative, dynamic, and international recognized Indonesian language program that supports the university’s leadership role in bridging East and West by fostering communicative competence in Indonesian for Asia-literate professionals in order to communicate, connect and interact effectively both in America and in the Malay World.
